Katrina Lee Bartas
Graduate Student (MCSB)
I’m a PhD student in the Mathematical, Computational, and Systems Biology program at UCI. Before coming to UCI, I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2018 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. My undergraduate research was in yeast genetics and metabolism, so after graduation I transitioned to a career in metabolic engineering at a biotech startup. While there, I developed coding skills to help automate tasks around the lab, and from there my interest in the computational side of biological research only increased. As part of the Beier lab I hope to analyze and integrate transcriptomic and connectomic datasets to explore how gene expression and brain connectivity are intertwined. In my spare time I like to listen to silly podcasts or go outside and hike, run, or swim.
